The Outside Sales Representative is an experienced, entrepreneurial sales professional responsible for developing and growing an assigned territory and turning leads into long-term customers. This is a dynamic, results-driven role focused on new business development, account growth, and lasting customer relationships. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, technically capable, and comfortable working independently in the field while staying closely aligned with the broader sales team.

Key responsibilities

  • New business development: Develop new business and engage existing customers through direct sales calls, phone, email, and social media.
  • Lead follow-up: Follow up promptly on quotes and leads to maximize conversion and close rates.
  • Customer service: Assess customer needs and ensure satisfaction while selling product at an appropriate gross profit margin.
  • Relationship management: Build and maintain a customer base through direct sales initiatives and positive, long-term relationships.
  • Issue resolution: Work directly with customers to resolve requests, complaints, and objections with a positive, creative approach.
  • Profit & sales goals: Maintain profit margins consistent with company requirements and strive to meet or exceed monthly and yearly sales goals.
  • Process improvement: Continuously improve processes to reduce costs, minimize discrepancies, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Product knowledge: Develop, maintain, and share strong product knowledge with customers and colleagues.
  • Consultative selling: Recommend products and answer questions on pricing, quality, durability, and specifications.
  • Account management: Prepare and maintain account information for current and prospective customers, including call records and order history.

General responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively in the field and with customers.
  • Report any workplace incidents, safety concerns, or compliance issues to your manager immediately.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including safe operation of a motor vehicle while conducting company business.
  • Participate in required training and professional development programs.

Qualifications & experience

  • Proven experience in outside sales (2–3 years preferred).
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Teams, and similar).
  • Technical aptitude and the ability to understand and explain product specifications.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the New England market and industries a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for regular travel throughout the assigned territory.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a pre-employment background check and/or drug screening as required.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred but not required.
