Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer supports the technical setup, process development, and continuous improvement of McGill Hose & Coupling’s manufacturing operations. The role spans programming and configuring manufacturing equipment, launching new projects into production, and driving process improvements across departments to increase efficiency, quality, and safety. You will work closely with Sales, Quality, Production, and customers to turn requirements into efficient, safe, manufacturable solutions, while analyzing existing processes and leading initiatives that optimize how the business runs. A formal engineering degree is not required; strong hands-on manufacturing experience and a drive for continuous improvement are what matter.

Key responsibilities

• Pre-sale & technical support: Support pre-sale technical reviews and customer evaluations, reviewing drawings and specifications for manufacturability.
• Equipment programming & setup: Program and set up CNC and other manufacturing equipment, developing tooling and process recommendations for efficient, safe production.
• Cost & technical reporting: Create cost estimates and technical reports to support quoting, planning, and project decisions.
• Project launch: Coordinate new job launches into production, lead kick-off meetings, and maintain project schedules.
• Customer support: Support customer meetings and technical discussions as needed.
• Training: Train operators on equipment setup, operation, and best practices.
• Hands-on development: Participate in hands-on builds, sample runs, and process trials, coordinating with suppliers during development.
• Process analysis: Analyze current processes, workflows, and systems across departments to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks.
• Continuous improvement: Develop and implement improvement plans and strategies using lean principles and other continuous-improvement tools.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work with teams including production scheduling to align improvement work with production requirements and constraints.
• KPI tracking: Monitor and track KPIs to measure the effectiveness of improvement and manufacturing initiatives.
• Problem-solving leadership: Lead or participate in problem-solving activities, acting as a change agent for a culture of continuous improvement.
• Quality support: Perform First Article Inspections and support related quality and systems initiatives.

General responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, organized, safe work area in both the shop and office at all times.
• Report all workplace injuries, near-misses, accidents, or unsafe conditions to your supervisor immediately.
• Comply with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
• Use required PPE as specified for the task and work area.
• Participate in all required safety training, onboarding orientation, and ongoing training programs.

Qualifications & experience

• 3+ years of manufacturing engineering, CNC/machining, or continuous-improvement experience.
• Experience with CNC lathes, mills, tube bending, or similar manufacturing equipment preferred.
• Experience driving continuous improvement, lean, or similar process-optimization initiatives preferred.
• CAD/CAM software proficiency.
• Blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in both manufacturing and customer environments.
• Willingness to travel regionally as needed.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a pre-employment background check and/or drug screening as required.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Technical or trade school, or engineering coursework, preferred but not required.
