Job Title: Outside Sales Manager
Reports to: Business Development Manager
Location: Field-Based (Travel Required)
Job Summary
McGill Hose & Coupling is a trusted name in hose fabrication and the distribution of safe media transfer products. Since 1962, we’ve helped our customers solve tough application challenges by providing complete, engineered hose and fitting systems. Now, we’re seeking an Outside Sales Manager who thrives in the field, not behind a desk — someone who leads by showing up, backing up, and leveling up the performance of our growing outside-sales team.
Outside Sales Manager
As the Outside Sales Manager, you are the coach, motivator, and hands-on partner committed to helping the sales team win. You don’t carry your own book of business or manage a specific territory. Instead, you work alongside our reps in the field, helping them strengthen customer relationships, close-bundled solution deals, and stay focused on high-impact activity. You lead with clarity, consistency, and follow-through — someone the team can count on to keep them aligned, supported, and moving forward. Your success is measured by how well the team performs — and your daily actions reflect that shared commitment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct 300+ customer visits/year, supporting reps in key meetings and ridealongs
- Help reps grow smaller accounts into $20K+ annual customers
- Coach reps on selling complete system solutions, including hoses, fittings, instrumentation, tubing, and more
- Support each rep’s Top 50 Account strategy with monthly progress reviews
- Reinforce CRM best practices (100 unique company touches/month per rep)
- Step in when reps are unavailable to maintain customer service continuity
- Partner with leadership to deliver technical training sessions, vendor days, and field seminars
- Promote and organize Hose Safety Week (September 8–13, 2025).
Success Metrics
- New $20K+ customer conversions
- Growth in bundled solution opportunities
- CRM and Opportunity Tracker accuracy
- Field insights and training sessions delivered
- Customer cost savings and application optimizations documented
- Measurable technical and personal development of reps over time
- Reps feel confident, prepared, and well-supported in the field
Who You Are
- Proven B2B sales or field leadership experience in industrial products, fluid handling, or technical solutions
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and motivational leadership skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Deep product knowledge (or fast learning ability) in hose systems, fittings, valves, and instrumentation
- A “boots-on-the-ground” mentality and passion for working in the field
- Proactive, approachable, and focused on relationship-building.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred, ideally in Business, Engineering, Industrial Distribution, or a related technical or commercial field.
- Equivalent experience in industrial sales, field support, or technical product management may substitute for a formal degree.
- Continuous learning mindset and willingness to complete product, application, and sales training is essential
